I CAN NOW BUNNY HOP!!!!!!! (or j-hop if you are so inclined)

This morning Jeff and I decided to meet up at Discovery Park for a skills session to work on our manuals and what not. While we were screwing around we saw a 2x4 and decided to work on bunny hops too. My first few attempts were pretty atrocious, I have a bad habit of trying to just pull up and hop both wheels at the same time (a bad habit I formed from riding fucking clipless pedals for 16 years). I was also going sideways which Jeff pointed out. Then we tried to just manual up to the 2x4 then do a small hop to get over, which I ended up just hoping onto the 2x4. After a few tries I started getting my back wheel up and over. Then the light bulb went off, I rolled up to the 2x4, went into a manual and smashed my rear tire into the ground and sprang upwards. Jeff cheered, "YEAAH!" It clicked! I had successfully done a text book bunny hop. We found some more wood and kept stacking it up. The harder I smashed my rear wheel into the ground the more spring I would get. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!

For most people who know how to bunny hop this is no big deal but when you could never do a successful bunny hop this is a very big deal. I have a few goals I want to accomplish by the end of the year (manualing, bunny hopping and dirt jumping). My goals are to be able to do each with confidence and grace, today was a big step forward (and Jeff was there to witness it).

Am I crazy?

Yesterday I asked my real estate agent to look for an acre of land I could buy for around $10K to $15K so I could build my own private bike park. My thoughts are this if I can get a 6% loan I would only have to pay about $90 a month to have my own piece of land which I could pretty much do anything I want on. Pump Track... Skills Course... Dirt Jumps... whatever the fuck I want and not have to wait for some city planner to see the light. I could also keep out all the dick heads who can't seem to understand how things work (Did you see my status update yesterday?).

I've been told "that's crazy", but how crazy is it? I mean this is America (fuck yeah!) if you can dream it then you can do it. If I want my own private bike park why can't I have it? Just because it's not normal for everyone to have their own bike park doesn't mean it's crazy. I think it's crazy not to follow your dreams. We only have one life to live and once you die that's it there is nothing left. There is no guarantee that you will go to heaven so why not make what you currently have heaven?

DYI Side Yard Bike Park

Cams-yard-feature

Cam and I have devised a plan to build a bike park feature in his side yard. The inspiration for this feature came from something I rode at the Green River Bike Park. We have enough room to build this one feature and some skills balance beams next to it. The skills balance beams will be the kind that reduce starting at 6 inches wide and reduce down to 2 inches. Once it's complete I have a feeling we are going to spend a lot of time riding his side yard.
